Background
A new plant was needed that replicated Viridor’s facilities at another recycling site. However, this new site needed to be capable of generating food-grade plastics. To produce these premium products, the law requires that plastics be traceable from collection as waste all the way through the recycling process before they can be sold as food-grade.
Challenges
Opening this kind of recycling plant required much more control than they were used to at their other sites. To achieve this they needed a more sophisticated IT system, one utilising much better infrastructure and software that could handle:
- purchase order processing
- sales order processing
- stock control
- warehouse management
- KPI reporting
The system also needed to integrate with their labs to provide batch control data that was easily accessible to management and that could communicate effectively with plant machinery.
Solution
Vertigo provided systems to overcome these issues by running the data though Microsoft Dynamics – very popular among manufacturing companies worldwide. This allowed us to offer a solution where we didn’t have to reinvent the wheel, a key cost-saving benefit of working with a well-established platform. After putting everything in place, Viridor experienced an 80-90% improvement in their yield.
