Background
Butlers has two factories and in-house IT management. Vertigo looked after their servers and provided disaster recovery, backups and security for both sites since 2010. A fire broke out in one of the factories one evening and took out an entire site. The blaze raged on for several days and seemed relentless. Nothing was left of the server room, servers or infrastructure, which meant they had to restart from scratch.
Challenges
Because we had the offsite backups, we knew we could get Butlers back up and running soon. They had another site they could operate from and so the task of re-establishing everything in the damaged site began. In this scenario it was far simpler than restoring after a virus attack, something Butlers had experienced in the past, but there was still a significant amount of work to do to become operational again, not least of which was building and commissioning a new hosting facility in the restored premises to help facilitate their online sales.
Solution
Within days Butlers were operational again, albeit somewhat compromised as they did not have the factory they once had or the same processes in place. Still, within weeks they were able to start shipping to their customers again in small quantities, critical for them because they risked losing their customer base if they couldn’t maintain a steady supply stream.
